Saving the Land

Saving the land

Role: Illustrator

I worked with the illustrator Hedof to create an illustration for Saving the Land, a charity project set up by Ukrainian farmer Serhil Zubar. Saving the Land will distribute apples grown in Ukraine by young farmers and I was tasked to create an illustration for one of the farm boxes that speaks to the local Ukrainian farming culture.

Nearly 200,000 square kilometers in Ukraine are contaminated with mines where battlefields were once farmland, small villages, roads, national parks and even people's backyards, and this is an ever-growing problem as people are unable to return to their lives due to such a high risk of mines in their in these rural areas. Serhil wanted to set up a charity project to raise awareness of this situation, and secondly to show the world that farmers in Ukraine are not like what you would typically see in the media. Serhil's plan is to sell apples and for each apple sale a portion of the proceeds will go towards rejuvenating and regenerating the areas affected by mines.
